"We're waiving too Ed"

A smile, a wave and of course, who could forget, the cowboy boots. If you attended one of our car shows, you knew who Ed was. Some called him the Honorable Ed, and he wore that name well. Unfortunately, it is with great sorrow that we must wave good-bye to our loving president Ed Smith. No words can express or ever convey the respect and admiration the club has for our department member, president and friend. Ed left suddenly on his final cruise Friday, November 20, 2020.

Ed took over the reins with the club back in 2015 after the passing of our past president Jack Judge. Through Ed’s tenure, the club has grown to be one of the most well respected and requested car clubs in northeast PA. Most members revere the club as family and not just a group of car lovers. And if we are to be considered a family, Ed was certainly the patriarch.

Under Ed’s leadership Hi-Lites has continued to not only hold events in many of our usual locations, but he spread our wings into many new and exciting partnerships including the Wyoming County Fair, the Dallas Fall Festival, the Back Mountain Bowl and Luzerne County Community College. Where we used to see 20 cars at an event, we now see 60 or more. Where we would see 20 at a meeting we now see 30+. We consider ourselves very lucky he and his wife chose Hi-Lites when their local club disbanded.

Hi-Lites will be forever grateful for the leadership and direction Ed gave us. In his memory, Hi-Lites will continue to promote his love of cars and his respect for their owners.

As a show of reverence and admiration club members will be meeting at the County Club Shopping Center on Sunday November 29th at 11:00am and heading to Tunkhannock to pay our respects.
